Surfer's Paradise and Dreamworld

We arrived in Surfer's Paradise in the afternoon and found a nice little holiday apartment to stay at called Surfer's Del Ray (http://www.surfersdelrey.com/). It was close to Cavill Avenue and was as cheap as the backpackers resort for the couple of nights that we were staying there for.

Surfer's is a really cool holiday city with lots af fancy high rise buildings and a gorgeous beach with huge waves. We hung out at the beach for the first day. The waves were great fun but the currents were mad. I kept getting the bold whistle from the lifeguards for floating off into the riptide area but I couldn't help it, I just kept getting pulled that way. I think Brian had had a word with the currents to get them to drag me away and give him a break!

At around 3pm, the high rise buildings cast a huge shadow over the whole beach which was such a shame as it was such a lovely beach!

That night we walked up the strip and found a nice Irish bar (yes, we are becoming those people - in fairness the Irish ones are usually the best bars!). We chatted with the nice barmaid from Swords who was working there in the evenings and doing fruit picking during the day to extend her visa.

We also got chatting to two little Irish lads who couldn't have been more than 22 and were still wet behind the ears. They were working in the mines as carpenters somewhere out in the bush, 3 weeks on and 1 week off per month. The little brats were earning $3,500 per week out there! Talk about living the life. They didn't know what to be spending their cash on! They were earning more in a week than they would in 6 months back in Ireland! Fair play to them. I always knew I should have been a carpenter!

We got tickets for DreamWorld theme park the next day. DreamWorld is DreamWork's version of DisneyWorld and has some really scary rides. We had great fun that day getting flung all over the place on roller coasters.

Brian met some of his Star Wars friends, who were also there on their holidays.

Brian doing a poo pose with Yoda (yes Catherine thinks one of those guys is Yoda)

There were some great rides including the Giant Drop, the Tower of Terror, the Claw, the Cyclone and loads more.

Brian nearly had a heart attack on the Giant Drop which was very scary. He was shaking like a leaf after it and going up to talk to complete strangers to warn them about the scariness. Haha it wasn't even that bad, it was probably on par with the tea-cups!

Brian's second poo of the day on the Giant Drop (Dad, he was like Johnny McGory)

There were loads of cute little places in DreamWorld too so we got some pics for Alex:

Some for the girls:

And one for Alan and Darren :) (sorry Dar, it was too good to resist :))

Surfer's was great craic. Would definitely recommend a few nights there. It's a real holiday place though and hadn't a patch on Byron Bay which we were off to next!
